Alone in the Dark The Cincinnati Series Karen Rose Books Reviews
I'm a big fan of Karen Rose and this book is no exception. (Last year I reread all of her 16 books in the series because I love the stories so much.) Her characters are well-developed and I wait (somewhat patiently, but usually impatiently) for her next book to come out. It is dark in the best way when it comes to the bad guys, strong and complex when it comes to the characters, and hopeful when it comes to the relationships in this book. When I want to read a strong romantic suspense, I love to pick up one of her books and this one will be added to the list.
I cried at the end...
I’m kicking myself for being so behind in this series. I’m a HUGE Karen Rose fan but yet I was a wee bit freaked with Faith’s book and put it down. Dumb.
The characters are so memorable, and damaged and so very noble.
I LOVE Marcus...LOVE. And this book was so damn epic. And Bishop...well you don’t get more badass than her. There was some storylines I wanted wrapped up but I’m hoping we get to them before series ends.
Great plot, awesome characters with so much action. Looking forward to next book.
This book definitely does not live up to the quality of Karen Rose previous books, which I have read most if not all. It takes up almost a year from her previous book but spends most of your time with the hero and heroine having the hots for each other while dealing with sex trafficking, murder and a missing baby. In the meantime, the bad guys are speedily doing away with most of the other characters in the book. While they are having sex, someone else actually rides to the baby's rescue. Tell me who in real life stops this desperately important case to scratch an itch. I read romantic suspense because I like a little romance with mystery, but the author has gone too far this time. Hope her next book is back on a par with her previous ones.
Marcus O,Bannion has a tragic past that fuels him to expose the bad guys & save victims. Scarlett Bishop is a cop who is tired of the bad guys getting away with their crimes. When the two reconnect after the death of a young woman who was a victim of sex trafficking, sparks fly and a dangerous hunt for the bad guy ensues. Karen Rose does a masterful job of establishing her characters & making us understand their motivations & actions. She really educates on the bad guys & how they do what they do. She weaves a story that makes you detest the evil villains, just waiting for them to get what they deserve!
Karen Rose is one of my favorite authors but this was not one of my favorite books. At over 700 pages it was way too long, and the first third of the book seemed to just be Scarlett and Marcus lusting after each other. Then in less than 24 hours they were boyfriend and girlfriend, acting like lovesick teenagers. It was hard to take either of them seriously when they were doing this during tactical meetings, surrounded by agents plotting to take down a human trafficking ring, or when they were stopping in the middle of dangerous situations to share a look or a touch. Looking forward to the next book in this series and hoping it's a bit more realistic (and a bit shorter).
If I went by the first half of the book I probably would have given it 2 Stars. This is a long book. I’d say it should have been 200 pages less. There are a lot of characters which is fine but they all didn’t need so much attention.
67% of this book is one day. It’s like a 21 hour period. At around 97% you have the end of the second day. So this whole book is two days then skips a couple of days the last 3%.
I liked the H and h. They were hot together. I liked that they worked together to bring down the bad guys. I liked her dad being in the book and their relationship.
I don’t know about Stone. The way he acted at the Ledger toward the h in the first half of the book was strange. He seemed like a weirdo.
