Mysteries of the Red Coyote Inn edition by Lorraine Carey Children eBooks

This is my second book by author Lorraine Carey. Once again I was entertained with her style of incorporating an unusual historical event and adding her paranormal flare to it. Well, she really fired it up in this power packed adventure that revolves from the Peralta family Massacre back in 1840s in the Superstition Mountains when they were attacked by a band of Apache warriors as they had been mining gold from the legendary Lost Dutchman Mine. Young Dean Banks moves into the area with his family and begins to experience odd phenomena, ghost sightings, supernatural animals, meets a mysterious miner and learns a dark family secret as he approaches his sixteenth birthday. Things really start to heat up when he discovers he has a special calling and will soon be drawn into a life of paranormal events he never saw coming. This is a ‘full house’ novel, with its urban legends, historical data and magic. One not to miss!

Mysteries of the Red Coyote Inn edition by Lorraine Carey Children eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this light read, enjoyed the point of view as told from the teen ager. In between trying to rebel and trying to help his mom. Will read out of the ashes
the book starts off with a great preface, then transations into the story seemsly. The characters are well beveloped and the plot is great I would recommend it
Lorraine Carey grabbed a hold of me from page one and didn't let go. Dean, the main character, is very well developed and you see how he grows with each and every page you turn. And you will be turning pages a lot because you won't be able to put the book down. Great Job Lorraine
I truly enjoyed this story about the mysterious Red Coyote Inn in Arizona. After her father passes away, Hanna inherits the old Inn. She and her two children take over and eventually get the rundown establishment back up and running. Dean, the soon to be sixteen-year-old, finds out he has quite a mystifying connection to the old Inn. He discovers he has weird and wonderful abilities handed down from his Indian ancestors.
Dean soon finds himself as 'Protector'; defending his mother, sister, and property against certain people who have checked in to spend a few days...with evil intent. How he deals with them is quite scary indeed. Dean is not happy to see what he has become. He has a good heart, will it remain so? I am looking forward to reading the next book to find out what happens to Dean as he ventures out on his quest to discover himself. Great read for teen boys and girls!!
Even though the storyline was predictable, the twists and turns kept me captivated. I felt the frustrations of the main character and would suggest this reading for a teenager. There is a hidden message telling a person to accept their own special talents. I felt myself yelling, "Git 'em" in the middle of the book, as good attempted to conquer evil. I was a bit disappointed with the ending, but understood the reasoning.
This is a great story for the teen in your life. Plenty of family drama, teenage angst, as well as mystery and adventure. The story is set in Arizona, near the Superstition Mountains, a place full of history, culture and legends. Dean Banks, the story's main character, is led down a path of self-discovery that includes family secrets, supernatural powers, mythical creatures. The characters, plot and descriptions of the desert area in which the Red Coyote Inn is located, are all well-written. Accessible and engaging for tweens and teens, this story will leave them ready for the sequel--Out of the Ashes. A recommended YA read.
This book intrigued me because of my interest with the mysterious Superstition Mountains. I saw it was a read for teens but thought I’d give it a shot. The author has a great background knowledge of the history and legends of the area surrounding the Lost Dutchman mine which held my interest. What really got me was how the author spun a paranormal story around the myths and legends.Dean Banks, a normal teen becomes a not so normal teen when he discovers he has inherited superpowers from an Apache Shaman ancestor and is chosen to be a gatekeeper of the sacred grounds from poachers trying to find the lost gold. Teen angst is played out with Dean’s character as he is faced with having to move to a haunted inn, deal with a dysfunctional family and find out he is half human. So much is going on in this novel, and in a good way. Ghosts, ancient warriors, thieves and spirit guides are just a few of the guests who inhabit the inn. I was glad to see the sequel come out because the ending is a real cliff hanger!
